September 21st, 2009This has little to do with training
It is currently 6:15PM on a Monday night in late september. Farther away from the east coast, non-pro race season can you get. Our first races in these parts are not until end of Feb. Good racing in April, the main event(s) in late june/early july. A long ways off.We had a busy weekend of lots and lots of driving, 9 hrs in 24 to be exact. I'm glad for two things - Kristy for doing most of the driving and for having a reasonable comfortable car.
We went up to the northern VA area to go to a party with some friends of ours that we hung out with when we lived in NOVA. Kristy was in her wedding, good fun bunch of folks. Perfect day for a back yard BBQ/party - 50ish people in total. We haven't seen any of these people in 4 years or so. The first thing our friends said was, "you guys look so skinny!". I was thinking exactly the opposite about most of everyone else. Funny how that works.
Then there was the usual, "oh - you ride alot? - you have to meet so and and so, he rides all the time...". ugh. Not to be an ass, but spare me.
So up to Reston on saturday AM, party, stay at my brothers sat night, up early for a ride with two CCT athletes (nice ride guys!), brunch, then home to mebane by 5PM. Long weekend.
So Monday AM came way too soon. My legs felt like crap, so I took a really easy rest day, stretched nicely and called it a day. Rest is a good thing
it's funny how different people are - I wake up at 5AM and am ready to roll, workout, get going. When kristy gets home from work at 4 or 5, she is ready to go workout - which I cannot understand. By the end of the day I'm ready for two things - a nice drink and dinner. Rarely do I feel like working out.
I have had the TV on for too long, the sheer stupidity of Americans is getting to me. On Beck's show - he had a reporter go ask Berkley students some really simple questions like who is your favorite president and why, what caused the great depression, etc. The answers were shocking, downright terrifying. It's no wonder it is so easy to pander to the left. Yes, Ben franklin is my favorite president because he invented gravity...
Otherwise, excited about working with some new clients starting Oct 1st - the fall is a really busy time for coach switching and always exciting. We are pretty much full here at CCT, one thing I will not do is compromise the level of attention I give to my athletes. Kristy likes that I refer to my athletes as "my guys"...
What else, What else...this week, just riding my bike some, enough to stay fit, not enough to raise or lower my CTL - so typically one or two "20s", anywhere from 90 to 100%, an hour or two. Usually before the sun comes up - until it gets a little colder, then it's indoors in the AM for me.
I do really get excited once real "training" starts - once the steady daily progression of effort marches on towards 2010. September is not the time for that focus, for that intensity. Oct is a little - Nov 1st, that is when the real prep, the real hard work and focus starts for 2010.
The next few weekends continue to be busy - going to asheville next weekend to visit with chris larsen and jess, then I go to the tunnel the following weekend with Gary, then the weekend after that Marc comes down on his way to the tunnel - lots happening but all fun stuff.
Interbike - excited to see what comes out this year. #1 for me is a well integrated Di2 frameset, giant or others. I don't expect to see much new on the wheel front, I'm really happy with HED wheels, they are fast and a great company to deal with. On the powermeter front, there are lots of new options, but many of them seem quite a ways off. I'm looking to try out Quarq myself soon, and I have a few sets coming in for my athletes. The exciting thing are the new ANT+ computers coming out. Otherwise, Di2, HED, a giant or specialized TT bike and I'm all set for 2010. Need to get a new giant TT helmet and a speedsuit, but other than that, we are all set.
If you need something from e-motion, HED, or quarq, shoot me a PM or email, might be able to hook you up.
cheers,
Pete
