September 17th, 2009Rain, hate the rain.
Yesterday and today were rainy days. I can't remember the last time rain interrupted my training plans, so we have been lucky with some great weather.I don't mind too much if I'm already out and I get a little wet, but I just hate leaving the house in the rain. I usually won't do it.
So yesterday and today I'm on the rollers, inside. It's funny how all winter I get totally used to doing most of my workouts inside, it becomes second nature. No way would I bother with riding in the cold, not when I have my nice indoor setup. Then spring comes around, I get a little nervous about my first few interval workouts outside since I have been doing them all inside. Then in the fall the same thing happens - First few workouts indoors and I worry a little about the power.
As I ease back into training indoors, especially this time of year, I'm taking a conservative approach to it. Less is more - at least initially. I'd rather have one quality 20:00 interval than several failed attempts or a slightly easier workout than one that burns up too much motivation.
So yesterday and today were solid workouts, it felt good to get back into the routine. 75 min each day, some solid FTP work
The funny thing is as much as I hate getting wet riding in the rain, on days like today when it's 70 in my garage, I end up completely soaked anyway, head to toe. Big fan, cooling vest, still soaked. But I'd rather get wet inside than out!
I can't imagine drenching my bike and the Di2 components in sweat is the best thing, but I guess if it can't stand up to that then it's not ready for prime time. So far so good.
Got a huge box of wheels yesterday, 7 in total, some for clients, and a set for me. I'm not worrying about race wheels until late winter, no sense in gluing up tires and having them sit for 6 months. I did need a new set of nice training wheels and I'm giving the HED ardennes a shot. They look really nice, I'll give them a go tomorrow.
Cheers,
Pete
