wet wet wet

Today was the RR for the Tour of Washington County.   It's a 3 stage SR on time in and around hagerstown, MD.  Really nice courses for the RR, TT and crit.  Not much prize money, so just good training and prep for nationals, well timed.  Unfortunatley it's also about 7 hrs from home.

Today it was raining, pouring, for the entire race.  The start was the worst, downpours, rivers on teh road, thunder, lightening, crashes, basically apocoplytic conditions.  I have no idea how I made it.  I could not see anything (no glasses), the rain was blinding at 30mph.  I had zero traction in the corners, so every corner was an almost crash.  Plus I hate the race.

10 laps of a nice course, a few hills, stingers but not long.  From the get go I'm on/off the front staying aggressive, mainly so I could see w/out spray in my eyes.  Just as I was caught chasing a move, 3 guys went (on lap 2 or so).  Could not respond.  They were gone, gone for the race.  I spend the first 1/2 the race trying to talk myself into quitting and going home - but once I got to the halfway point, I figured i might as well finish.  I felt strong, fresh, snappy, but there was no bringing that break back, so I just hung out, stayed safe, finished 9th with not a huge amount of energy burned.

7:21 tomorrow is my start time for the 20km TT.  I plan on riding it the best I can, full stick.  Can't wait to see the results.
