Indoor workout - group ride/race simulation

Well, the weather down here in the southeast is about as bad as it gets, steady rain, cold, just plain nasty. I don't race in the cold rain, no way. Especially not 4 hrs away from home.

One workout that I have a lot of my guys do when a group ride or race gets rained out is an indoor simulation of that training, basically a variety of intensities. Something different to do indoors, longer than usual and nice and hard.

The workout I did this morning started out with a 10min effort at 100+% of FTP - then a variety of VO2 work, some 4:00, 3:00 efforts, couple of 1:00 efforts thrown in - all hard of course. then the workout finished up with a threshold effort in the 20 to 40 min range, 90 to 95% FTP. I felt good, nailed 30 min at 95%.

The whole workout was 2 hrs, done by 7:10AM, nice. 2000KJ, 305w NP, 140tss points for 2 hrs is solid work for sure. The best part is now I have all day to do whatever, sometimes it's nice to be home, not traveling to some race far away. So I'll spend this rainy saturday doing coaching work, tinkering with the bikes and probably taking a fat nap at some point.

Cheers!
