How to show the cold who is boss

This morning it was COLD, about as cold as it every gets here in the morning.   29 degrees, clear, dark, no wind.  But cold.  I briefly thought about riding later in the day, but that is usually a hassle and I hate bagging a workout, so off I went.

When it's this cold, I typically cut warmup/cooldown to bare bones, basically because anything less than 300w of effort doesn't generate enough heat to stay warm!

I cut my usual short warmup to really short - basically out of my neighborhood, down a short hill and hit it, 3 min after I got on the bike I was rolling into my first of a 2x20:00 at 95% plus 5:00 of microbursts.  A minor disaster hit at 4:00 into the effort, both knee warmers slipped down, so I had to stop and fix them.  Wardrobe malfunction.  No problem though, cranked out both 20s, the micros and felt really good.  2 min cooldown, and I was home in an hour.

My 20 min power has been slowly inching up, I did these today in the low 330s and it was hard, but not grueling by any means.  Not bad for a cold morning and a good way to start out December!

cheers,
Pete

ClientTestimonials

"When looking for a coach, I essentially wanted two things: to be attentive/available and to possess the understanding to provide thoughtful workouts/advice according to evidence-based principles. Peter has more than fulfilled these goals. He is responsive and thoughtful, typically returning emails in a few hours and frequently following it up with further thoughts once he has digested the question fully. I have already made significant progress in just a few months, and I look forward to continuing the same in the months/years to come."
