November 13th, 2009Start to the weekend
Ah yes, the weekend. We all look forward to it, but when you have a slowish week at work and you work from home, in many ways there isn't much difference. In the past the blackberry/iphone would be shut away for the weekend, but now that I coach a number of athletes, the weekends just mean I now look for emails from clients rather than work clients. One piece of advice a very smart uncle of mine gave me before I went to college was no matter what, go to bed, get up at the same time every day, regardless of if you got your work done or not - the idea being, that you would simply figure out how to get everything done w/out resorting to not sleeping, etc. I never once pulled an all nighter (related to school work...) and always went to bed early, took naps and got up early - 7 days/week. I've always HATED it when someone says they "don't have time" for something. Wrong. You chose not to have time for it, very different. We all have the same 24hrs to do with as we see fit.
Well, what that means for me now is that I have the same morning routine on the weekends as I do during the week. I don't reward myself with sleeping in, mainly because my body is hard wired as a morning person, and I love getting up and attacking the days business, whatever it may be. So every day, without fail I get up before 5, hit the coffee, etc.
Now this week has kind of sucked, because I have had a low grade cold since last weekend. No fever, feel so-so, congested, but I can still operate. Sleeping sucks though due to congestion, and I wake up all stuffed up - which I unceremoniously blow out all over the floor while I ride.
I have been cognizant not to push too hard this week, but after a few days off, I could not stand not training - and I actually felt better once I got back on the bike and rode some. It also gave me the opportunity to get reacquainted with my rollers, which i have eschewed in favor of riding outside for quite a while. It has been raining like the great flood for days, so indoors has been the order of the day. Power is back to normal on the rollers I think - feels just like the road, just took a few rides to get back into the groove. I'm happy to spend 1 to 2 hrs/day on the rollers if the weather dictates. Rollers, plus lupines, really no reason why a workout can't get done, ever.
It finally looks like the rain will blow outta here tonight, so the weekend looks good, sunny, 60s. I'll take that.
On the team front, we have our design close to done, meaning we should have team kits in December. For those who wanted to pre-order kits or speedsuits, make sure to email me what you wanted.
Racing starts down south in 3 months - just 12 weeks from now. Think about that.
Otherwise tonight we hit the martini bar, tomorrow the usual riding, relaxing, etc and then sunday we celebrate 3 birthdays (mine, blair and graham's) at sunday supper. Should be another great relaxign weekend!
Cheers,
Pete
