November 3rd, 2009I've seen the light....and it burns!
Many of us here are quite the creatures of habit. We get into a routine and I for one hate changing it. I get all bent out of shape if I have to workout at a different time of the day or if something messes up my plans. I'm fortunate to have excellent control of my schedule though. My routine of late has been riding in the dark, outside, nice and early. I'm not sure why, but I have really been enjoying it, so I have stuck with it.
This morning I wasn't able to get out early, so I headed out around 8. Bright sunshine - I felt like a vampire, not being used to the light. But amazingly the workout when very well, enjoyable, though there were a few more cars than at 5AM. I also felt strangely LESS visible.
It was also in the 30s, but that isn't a problem anymore either. When rides used to involve meeting a group somewhere, standing around forever, starting out super slow and then never really going all that hard, the cold sucked. When you are going hard w/in a few minutes of getting on the bike, you heat up right away. 30s, no problem, i come home nice and warm. I'm sure it would not be the same riding around at a slow pace.
Still love the Giant, and on thursday I have another SRM coming in, so I can do a side by side comparison to the look. Ride one, ride the other, get a really good feel for the differences.
Otherwise not much happening, just forcing my body to produce more power, get better at storing and using carbs and raising that threshold power. In a few months we will be layering in more interesting training, VO2 work, sprints, microbursts, all the goodies that go on top of a high threshold, making for a killer crit machine.
Cheers,
Peter
