New lows for the Mebane dawn patrol - plus it is confirmed, i'm an addict

Yes, new lows here at the dawn patrol.  New lows in temp that is.  The last couple of days have been COLD!  With today being the coldest - 33 when I left the house at about 5:20.

Honestly it's not bad with the right clothes - and doing a hard workout generates quite a bit of heat.  So on these cold days, a quick warmup, hit the intervals and a quick cooldown does the trick.  The cooldown part can be the worst though - you are all sweaty and then immediatly get chilled when you let off the gas.  So i try really hard to finish my last set close to the house, which is easy to do.  Those who have had the pleasure (maybe I should call it the pain) of riding here from mebane know the route I'm talking about.

An informal invitation - I'm more than happy to ride with anyone who happens to be in the area, and if you are lucky, we will even put you up and feed you.  So if you are passing through NC consider a stop off in Mebane, we love company, especially CCT athletes!

Today's workout was an unstructured ride - one w/out intervals and no specific goal other than 2 hrs - and a steady effort.  I usually insert a certain amount of unstructured workouts and group rides into my athletes programs based on how much they like interval work and solo rides.  I personally love solo structure - but w/out an occasional break from it I tend to go off the deep and.  But it can be soooo boring.

Today I realized something with acute clarity.  I'm an addict.   I actually have an addictive personality overall, like many of us - but let's keep this to one aspect of it.  I'm not just addicted to working out, being an athlete, etc.  It gets worse than that.  I'm addicted to the rush, the feeling of accomplishment and endorphins that only a race or hard workout can elicit.  Days off or easy and I'm downright grumpy.  I have to foce myself, and usually inform Kristy ahead of time not to let me ride hard - but it sucks.  But even an "unstructured" workout can be a drag.  Today I felt left out of the fun - getting various emails from my athletes about their "awesome" workouts and the like.  Good thing I have a 1x60:00 on my personal schedule for tomorrow.

New bike coming in this week - a 2010 giant TCR with Di2.  Should be quite nice, I really liked my 2007 giant TCR, this one will be much better, plus internal Di2 routing, really looking forward to comparing it to the venerable look 595 ultra.  One will win, one will go on ebay.  The giant trinity TT bike is about a month out on delivery.

Cheers,
Coach Pete
