Training the last few days, Trip to A2, and bike mechanic fun
I have been having a nice run of good workouts and great weather to go with them.
Oct will be a month of steady hard (but not suffering hard) work, working on threshold but more in the 90 to 95% range. Lots of 20s, 30s and 60s. I personally do well on a 2 on, 1 off schedule if I'm doing 40 to 60 min of FTP work per session. A schedule like this keeps me right at 75 to 80 on CTL and is completely tolerable.
Yesterday I got to ride with Gary, it's always great to ride with a client. We warmed up together, then did a 1x60:00 interval at 91%. We used my beloved stretch of road, 119N. We each did our workout, regrouped afterwords and were both pretty whipped. I was glad to see Gary actually look a little tired, I was starting to think he was a robot with these workouts. After the workout naps were the order of the day - but a critical bike issue kept me from being able to relax.
Today I did a 2x20:00 workout at 95%. Initially my legs hurt, somewhat tired from saturday. I took my own advice for once and waiting till 5:00 into the first interval to see how I felt. Surprise, the legs warmed up and felt fine, so I banged out the workout. Tired now for sure, but a little fatigue, lack of sleep and such is no excuse!
We went to the tunnel on Friday, got a very nice improvement, some new bars and a quarq powermeter as well. The PM went on really easy, but the new bars were a real challenge. Getting the brake cables/housing through the bars was nearly impossible. We probably spend 2 hrs trying - and finally got it. The bike came together great, nice and smooth and worked 100%. It ended up being a really long day - but we finally got to relax with a nice dinner to cap off a really productive and fun weekend.
This business with the UCI and the shiv, trinity and P4 is a real pain in the ass. I now have no idea what bike I'll ride, and honestly I may end up on a P3 again! That would be funny, to buy the same frame again, but this time it will have Di2 which will be sweet.
The rest of the afternoon I'm home alone, sipping some good wine and working on a number of coaching projects.
2010 prep has begun, and so far it's going great.
Happy Training,
Pete
