September 30th, 2009The early early bird
Some days schedules can get pretty busy, making training tough to fit in. It's never impossible, but tough. Since I generally dislike training late in the day, my preference is to do the workout early, regardless of how early I have to make it and still get on with my day.Yesterday was exceptionally early. I was up at 3:30, on the bike at 4AM, headed down the road with my light blazing, dressed for the 50 deg temps. It was beautiful and silent out, very very nice actually.
I won't say things like "races are won at 4AM" or "I train while you sleep" because honestly you can fit your training in whenever you want. However, consistency is paramount, and if you regularly use excuses and miss workouts your power will suffer. And then you will suffer.
Monday I did an hour of high tempo, 1x60:00 at 90%, nice solid set then yesterday a quick 2x20:00 at 93%. Solid workouts, not too stressful but still requiring focus to complete.
Oh and I have a new friend, his name is George. That is what kristy named him. I'm convinced that I have a tape worm. There is no reason someone my size and activity level should eat as much as I do. No reason. So George must be growing because i'm hungry 24-7. You think I'm kidding? The last few weeks I've been downing 1000kcals BEFORE my early AM rides. That's just for starters.
Cheers,
Pete
